                                  Jen Sincero - Self help

I am not one to normally pick up a self-help book, but I was having a wonky few days and happened to pop open my Instagram feed to see someone had posted an image of this book with the caption "Buy this book. Read it (probably in one sitting) and let it light a fire under your ass."  To this person I say, thank you!

I do have to warn you, you will either read the first few pages and get really into it or be totally turned off and not even want to finish. I tend to read reviews of a book after I've read them, just to give them all a fair shake and not start reading with any preconceived notions, but it was quite apparent that this isn't a universal book. Jen Sincero uses some pretty frank dialogue and some would say she has a potty mouth. It's definitely a blunt read, no sugar coating will be found between this books pages.

"We arrive here as perfect little bundles of joy and then set about the task of learning to un-love ourselves! How unbelievably ridiculous is that?!"

"There's a great Hindu story about a lady who wanted to meet the god Krishna. So she went into the forest, closed her eyes, and prayed and meditated on making the god appear and lo and behold, Krishna came wandering down the forest path towards her. But when Krishna tapped the lady on the shoulder, she, without opening her eyes, told him to get lost because she was busy meditating on a very important goal."

Most of the nay-sayers bogged at this book simply because they don't believe the idea that thinking good things and acting in a positive manner is enough to "manifest" good mojo or bring about good things in your life. Frankly, those are exactly the type of people I think need to read this book! Not to mention Jen is pretty blunt in the first few pages and warns the reader that if they can't or don't want to have an open mind, her advice and this book aren't going to be of any use to them.

For me, this book popping into my Instagram feed when it did was like the universe giving me a pat on the backside to get off my keester and get moving towards a new chapter in my life. It seems like everyone has an "ah-ha" moment and this book is certainly an "ah-ha" kind of book.

I HIGHLY recommend You are a Badass, it's a book you won't regret reading.
