Chasing the Unicorn

Today, today I think I officially lost my marbles. I caught myself day dreaming about stuffing hot peppers up my boss’s nostrils after slicing the ends off.

Not only do I despise my boss, but I feel like a small part of my soul dies every time I pass through the lobby of my office building and into the cubicle farm where I spend 8 hours of every day being a desk monkey.

I was not meant to be a desk monkey.

Not that there is anything wrong with working in an office...or being a desk monkey.  Completing the same tasks day in and day out, it’s just not for me. I will eventually wither away into a blob of nothing if I spend my entire life working in an office like this one.

I am completely, unequivocally jealous of those who make a living doing what they love. Every night I dream about the endless possibilities of what my life could be like if I just got off my big, polish arse and chased my dreams. A Victorian house in the middle of the country complete with creaky old stairs and floorboards that move under your feet. The kind of house that would make it nearly impossible to sneak in and out of. It would be surrounded by grass fields, wooded lots and we would have a few horses (rescues of course)  and chickens...I would definitely have chickens.  My office would consist of several piles of books, a comfy desk chair placed in front of a HUGE bay window and my uniform would be what ever the hell I wanted it to be.  Then I wake up and reality hits…hard.

I wish I had the ability to be one of those people that just up and quits my job to follow my dreams, but sadly I know that sprinkles and rainbow farts aren’t enough to support my family while I chase the unicorn of all unicorns. I have responsibilities. Responsibilities that include providing for myself, husband and our perfect little bean of a daughter, Shelby. Being unemployed and working as a “starving artist” would be the most irresponsible thing I could do.

So, instead of “chasing” my dreams I am attempting a slow walk. Hopefully the mother of all unicorns has a broken leg…or two.
